Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals will be governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle in Dorset, drivers must be at least 21 years old, though age limits may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for those under 25. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the selected vehicle category, is required, along with identification and proof of address. Payment information and a security deposit must also be provided, in addition to any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations for car rentals can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Dorset office. A booking deposit may be necessary to confirm your reservation. Full payment and a security deposit are usually required at the time of vehicle pick-up. All pricing is displayed in British Pounds (£) and includes VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, with transactions processed securely through trusted payment platforms.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be filled out and signed for your records. Ensure that the vehicle is returned in the same condition as it was collected, subject to normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at the start of the rental; additional refueling charges will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra fees, so please inform us right away if you expect to return the vehicle later than agreed. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges accrued during your rental period, along with an associated administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Full coverage information and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to limit your financial liability, and it is advisable to review these thoroughly. You will be accountable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except when covered by extra insurance. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional fees.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or any dangerous driving practices. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited, as is sub-letting to unauthorized individuals or allowing unapproved drivers. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Vehicles should not be used for purposes beyond their intended design, nor should passenger or weight limits be exceeded. Additionally, driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Dorset will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, related to your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the rental fees paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
Governing Law in Dorset
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of their courts.
